Before digital timekeeping, pieces like this recorded the beginning and end of the workday. Manufactured by the International Time Recording Co. of Endicott, New York, this antique employee time recorder dates to approximately 1910–1916—a tangible connection to the offices and workshops of early twentieth-century America.

Its tall oak cabinet, pronounced molded crown, large clock face, and elaborate metal scrollwork show how even practical workplace equipment could carry handsome craftsmanship. The maker’s lettering remains on the glass, while an intact original red-and-black recording ribbon survives inside.

Today, it offers a distinctive decorative presence for a home, office, or workshop, bringing history, character, and a conversation starter to the room.

Care Instructions

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, metal polish, and excess moisture, which may damage aged finishes and lettering. Apply glass cleaner sparingly to a cloth rather than directly to the glass, and avoid cleaning over the maker’s lettering. Keep away from prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions. Consult a qualified antique clock specialist before attempting mechanical repairs or lubrication.

Biblical Reflection

This time recorder once marked the hours people devoted to their daily work. It reminds us that our time has value, and that ordinary responsibilities offer opportunities to serve faithfully. Whether our work is seen by many or quietly done, we can approach it with care and a heart directed toward the Lord.
