Elegant even in its everyday purpose, this late Victorian dustpan transforms a simple household tool into a decorative object. The stamped body features an intricate engraved design incorporating Greek Key medallions, scrolling foliage, and delicate geometric ornament, while the scalloped rear edge adds an unmistakably Victorian flourish.
Time has worn portions of the original silverplate, revealing the honest character earned through generations of use. Rather than diminishing the piece, the remaining patina highlights its authenticity and reminds us that beautiful objects once served ordinary daily life.
Whether displayed in a primitive kitchen, Victorian home, laundry room vignette, or antique collection, it is an uncommon survivor that combines utility, craftsmanship, and decorative appeal.
Features
- Circa 1880 to 1910
- Stamped silverplate over base metal
- Hand-engraved decorative pattern with Greek Key medallions
- Scalloped decorative rear edge
- Functional dustpan form
- Wonderful Victorian farmhouse display piece
Condition
Very good antique condition with expected wear from more than a century of use. The original silverplate is thin and has worn through in areas, exposing the underlying metal. Surface scratches, scattered oxidation, and plate loss are consistent with age. We have intentionally left the original finish untouched, as aggressive polishing would remove additional plating.
Care Instructions
Dust with a soft dry cloth only. Avoid abrasive polishes, steel wool, or chemical silver cleaners, as the remaining silverplate is delicate.
Biblical Reflection
Even ordinary tools can reflect extraordinary craftsmanship. This humble dustpan reminds us that faithful work has long been worthy of beauty.
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.”
Colossians 3:23 (KJV)
