1985 Illinois Barn Quilt Crafted from Reclaimed Greene County Barn Siding

Crafted in 1985 by Lemon Tree Crafts, this one-of-a-kind barn quilt was created from authentic reclaimed siding salvaged from a 75-year-old barn in Greene County, Illinois. The reverse retains both the original maker’s label and the artist’s signature, R.L. ’85, preserving the story behind the piece.

If the maker’s label refers to the barn’s age at the time the artwork was created, the reclaimed wood likely came from a barn built around 1910, giving this folk-art panel roots that reach back more than a century.

Rather than hiding the age and weathering of the reclaimed wood, the artist embraced it. The original saw marks, knots, grain, and natural patina remain visible beneath the painted quilt pattern, allowing the history of the barn to become part of the artwork itself.
