This early 20th-century shoe shine kit has both.
The handmade wooden box features a beautifully detailed cast iron carrying handle with an openwork star design that immediately catches the eye. Inside is a simple storage compartment that once held polishes, brushes, and the daily necessities of keeping leather shoes presentable.
Included with the box are several period accessories, including two vintage Esquire boot polish tins, wooden polishing brushes, and applicators that remain together as a complete working set.
Rather than being over-restored, this piece has been carefully preserved with the character earned through decades of use. The worn wood, aged finish, scattered scratches, and small nail repairs all contribute to its authenticity and make it an excellent decorative piece for a library, mudroom, office, or vintage general-store display.
Whether displayed open or closed, it captures a small piece of everyday American life from the first half of the twentieth century.

Condition
Very good antique condition with expected wear from decades of use. The wood shows scratches, stains, and age-related surface wear consistent with an authentic working shoe shine box. Minor old nail repairs and small holes are present, but the box remains solid and displays beautifully. Accessories exhibit comparable age and wear.
